Cincinnati Pride: Cowardice, Complicity, and the Fight for Liberation
Over the last decade, Pride has been professionalized and depoliticized: paid staff, marketing partnerships, VIP tickets, security trainings with the FBI. Pride is no longer a grassroots expression of queer struggle. It has become a PR-friendly festival designed to keep us passive and "proud," but only so long as we make no demands.
Reclaim Pride: Embracing Our Revolutionary Roots
Corporate Pride is a relatively new phenomenon, and one which can be rejected. We do not have to accept the false representation of our identities, communities, or history of resistance by harmful corporate and government entities. The Pride of the future will represent queer struggle and queer joy. It will honor our past and present, and fight for the liberation of all oppressed and exploited peoples across the globe.
One Big Bullshit Bill
House Resolution 1 (H.R. 1), otherwise known as Donald Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," exemplifies the continued officiation of the malicious intent of the capitalist ruling class. Wherever profit can be extracted, the capitalists hold the inhumane belief that individuals of the diverse and numerous proletarian masses are expendable. It's our responsibility to rally to the defense of the queer community and, in defiant solidarity, resist the bourgeoisie's plan to discard trans people as the next casualties of consolidation.
Cincinnati Police Department: Child Executioners
Condemning Rodney Hinton Jr. and at the same time justifying the murder of his son, Ryan Hinton, is a betrayal of the people. Anyone who carries water for the oppressors by recognizing their violence as legitimate while declaring resistance or retaliation unacceptable objectively works against the interests of the people. Rodney Hinton Jr. staked his life to avenge his son and stood in a courtroom without fear and with all of his convictions knowing he could be put to death for his actions; that in itself is commendable.
Burnet Woods Dog Park: Taxpayer Money Literally Going to the Dogs
Since 2020, there’s been a battle between the Cincinnati Parks Board and Clifton citizens over plans to convert 8,800 square feet of Burnet Woods into a dog park. In that amount of time, the Cincinnati Parks Board has been inundated by at least a thousand emails and messages from opponents of the project. However, no matter how much negative feedback the project receives, the Park Board trudges on with plans to construct the dog park, highlighting how easy it is for bourgeois political powers to outright ignore the will of the people.
For Profit Healthcare: Why the Bourgeoisie Protects Mass-Murdering Profiteers
American citizens of all backgrounds are aware that the United States’ healthcare system is rife with inequality, needless complexity, and exorbitant expenses. What the wealthy and the bourgeoisie fail to comprehend is how the working class — who are inundated with the violence of medical debt and denied claims — would rightfully celebrate the assassination of former UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The common sentiment of citizens has been that he deserved to die for the suffering his company has inflicted on the 7.5 million people that are supposedly covered by their insurance.
Trump Invokes the Alien Enemies Act of 1798
Hundreds of immigrants have been deported around the country after President Trump invoked the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 for the first time since World War II. Using a centuries-old wartime law to target alleged members of a Venezuelan gang (Tren De Aragua), the new administration continues to arrest, detain, and deport more and more people while the bourgeois media focuses on legal battles against the administration that will take months to resolve.
Feb 26th City Council Demands
Cincinnati Socialists and the people of Cincinnati stand in solidarity with the Black and immigrant populations in our city.
“School Choice” and the Capitalist War on Public Education
Children are meant to learn, not earn. Free quality public education should be made available to every child no matter their race or socioeconomic status. Attacks on public schools serve to widen class divisions, limit access to quality education to a privileged few, and reduce public education to nothing more than job training for working class children.
Who Do The Police Serve? The Execution of Sonya Massey
Sonya Massey should still be alive. Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Timothy Thomas, Sam Dubose, Tortuguita, Dexter Reed Jr., Elijah Hadley, and countless others should still be alive. We should honor all of them in the struggle against racist and classist state violence.
